Solidarity in a time of crisis: the role of mutual aid to the Covid-19 pandemic

Institution
Glasgow Caledonian University
Country
United Kingdom
Key Focus of Study
We will examine the role of grassroots community-based responses to the pandemic, focusing attention on local ‘mutual aid groups’ which aim to provide support to those people most at risk of infection. Working more or less autonomously, they mostly co-ordinate their activities online, so specific methods will be employed to gather data to cope with this and the physical distancing measures in place at this time. The project will greatly improve our knowledge of civil society responses to the pandemic, raising awareness and understanding of the importance of community-based action to public health crises
